Core Values

As a Resurrection people, we value:

Being Guided by the Spirit

Our congregation does not create itself. We claim as a core conviction our belief - as explained by Martin Luther - that the Holy Spirit “calls us through the Gospel, enlightens us with his gifts, makes us holy, and keeps us in the true faith...” All of our ministries, activities and doing flow out of our being who God has already graciously made us in Christ our Lord.

Gathering for Worship

Worship is at the center of our life as a community of faith. We worship together to connect to God as the creator and source of all life so that we may be nourished and strengthened to face the week ahead. Our worship is grounded in the Lutheran liturgical tradition that centers on Word and Sacrament. In our worship we seek to proclaim the boundless love and grace of God.

Nurturing Faith

All people are welcome in this community of faith, regardless of where they are on their faith journey - and we are committed to being companions on that journey. We hold as a crucial value the nurturing of faith in children. Faith is nurtured in many ways, from Sunday School to small group ministry, from confirmation to special events. Growing in the marks of discipleship is encouraged as a discipline that nurtures faith. We proudly claim as an integral element of nurturing faith the Lutheran legacy that seeks to help people understand the Living Word of God.

Equipping for Ministry

Through our baptism, God has called each of us to a particular ministry. In so doing, God has also given us the spiritual gifts, talents, and abilities necessary to fulfill that ministry. We seek to embody the Reformation doctrine of the priesthood of all believers. We help people discover their Godgiven spiritual gifts and then connect them to a ministry for which they have a passion and that can also use those gifts. We have a flexible, permission-giving ministry structure which allows ministry teams that support our Vision and Mission to form, evolve, and end as needed.

Cultivating Relationships

God did not call us to live alone, but in community. Relationships don’t just happen--they must be cultivated through intentional hospitality, small groups, frequent sharing of meals, and a vibrant fellowship ministry, including cross-generational opportunities. We want Resurrection be a place where all are known by at least a few others in this faith community. We seek to be an inviting and open community that enjoys a healthy sense of humor and a fun atmosphere.

Going Forth in Service

Jesus called us to lives of loving and serving our neighbor. This loving and serving involves meeting physical and emotional needs, as well as proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. We love and serve because God has first loved and served us. Our service begins in the immediate community around us, spreads out to the Indianapolis area, and through our partnership with the synod and national church, extends across the country and around the world.

Developing Resources

God has provided to us all that we need in order to fulfill our mission and ministry. However, it is up to us to develop those resources. We do so through leadership development, practicing sound stewardship, forming helpful partnerships, and pro-actively planning for our facility needs.
