Days of Grace . . . .

Baptisms: Received in the joy of the Christian community through Holy Baptism were:

Luke Brand Schilling, son of Eric and Natalie Schilling

Ava Danielle Myers, daughter of Peter and Kim Myers.

Come Join us at Play-Time Port . . . .

Play-Time Port is the area we call our nursery on Sunday mornings. We have paid staff that are present from 7:50am-12:15pm (following the last worship service), however they cannot be the only hands, eyes, and ears! All time in the Play-Time Port is time together – playing, reading, holding, and watching. As you play together with the children (no-diaper changing) rejoice in the good God who gave you this opportunity of investing in the child’s spiritual growth.

Talk about God during your play through reading stories or singing songs. This is a time for church and God to become a real comfort for little ones, especially as they learn to separate themselves from their primary care-giver. It’s a place to become awed by the wonder of God through these little creations called babies and toddlers. Remember to sign-up on the bulletin board across from Play-Time Port to take time playing, reading, holding, and watching these little ones during worship or Discipleship Hour (Sunday School) on Sunday mornings.

Camp Olivet

Fellowship Weekend

September 15-16

Great fun for all!

Camp Olivet is located in the rolling hills

south of Bloomington, about 60 miles from RLC.

All are welcome to join in this time of relaxing fellowship – young and old, families, couples, and singles. Bring a picnic lunch for Saturday (or find your way down there sometime during the afternoon.) There will be games for the kids as the adults play sports or sit in camp chairs under the trees to chat, nap, read, do crafts, or whatever you wish. Some will fish in the stream or take a walk in the woods.

We’ll share dinner together Saturday evening and then have time for more fellowship and games. The evening ends with a campfire, devotions, singing, and roasting marshmallows. After breakfast on Sunday morning, Pastor Dave will lead worship in the outdoor chapel. Then it is time to clean up and head home.

Sleeping facilities are in bunk beds either upstairs in the main building or in cabins. There is a modern building with showers and restrooms. The entire Camp Olivet facility is VERY NICE!

The cost is only $10 per person. Watch the blue announcement sheet in the worship bulletin for more details and a map – and register to attend in the Narthex. All FaithBuilders and Youth Group are encouraged to attend.

From the Staff . . . .

Dear Friends in Christ,

In July, I entered into a year-long coaching relationship with The Youth & Family Institute, an organization that provides coaching, training and resourcing services to congregations. They base this on a ministry model that seeks to partner home and congregation in the faith sharing process, encourage daily faith practices for all ages, revitalize adult faith formation, and celebrate home and congregational milestones in every chapter of life.

The Institute’s coaching process is an interactive one that helps individuals, ministry teams, and congregations live a vibrant life of faith, where people use their God-given gifts to set better goals, make better decisions and take more effective action. The Institute’s coaching process involves 5 key steps:

    1. Establishing the coaching relationship (initial phone conversations)

    2. Discovering and exploring key issues (during on-site visit)

    3. Establishing ministry priorities and appropriate action steps (Executive Summary Report)

    4. Providing support and encouragement while monitoring key goals, plans and initiatives (twice a month phone conversations and periodic emails throughout the year)

    5. Evaluating, celebrating and revising plans as needed.

Coaching often serves as a vehicle for helping church leaders like me learn how to align their ministries with their gifts and passions, develop a theological framework for ministry, integrate the Four Keys faith formation strategies into their home and congregational settings, make plans for intentionally partnering home and congregation, develop tools for equipping and empowering lay leaders, establish faith milestones for the first third of life, and foster personal and spiritual renewal among all church leaders.

In the coming months, I look forward to sharing with you my plans for personal and professional development of new ideas and strategies for enhancing faith formation ministries at Resurrection. Please continue to pray for me and the work of the church in ministering to the youngest members of our faith community.

                                                                      Blessings,

October Rotation

The S.S. Discipleship will continue sailing through the Gospel of Luke in October studying Jesus’ love for everyone including outcasts. We will discover that when we show a wholehearted response to God’s love, such as by being thankful and worshiping, we become closer to God. If you are interested in assisting children through this rotation that begins on September 30 and concludes on October 28, please visit the Discipleship Hour Operations Team (DHOT) at the Safe Harbor on Sunday mornings.

The Little Lutheran . . . .

Some of you may have noticed there are copies of The Little Lutheran in the children’s “fun-box” in the narthex. We encourage children to take a copy and review during worship and return following worship. The Little Lutheran was designed to nurture our Christian faith in little children we know and love. Please provide any feedback about The Little Lutheran to Julie Peralta. If you prefer to borrow a copy throughout the week to create caring conversations – please do and remember to bring back for others to use the next week.

Seminary Samplarians . . . .

Justin Bennett and Stephanie Deck both participated in Seminary Samplarian at Trinity Lutheran Seminary this summer. Here are comments from Stephanie Deck:

Seminary Sampler was a memory that will forever be in my mind. In the span of three weeks, our group of 11 teens and 5 counselors experienced more than I had even fathomed when I signed-up.

The people at Sampler are always going to remain in my heart. All of us experienced, taught each other, and learned so much from one another making bonds that hopefully will last for a long time to come. During the Sampler we took classes taught by professors at Trinity Lutheran Seminary such as theology, old testament, Ethics and learned about where GOD was in the media. Along with learning in a classroom environment we also went places with mentors, learning the different jobs and ways we could be involved in ministry.

One of the best things about being involved in this though, was the hours we spent volunteering. Places like Habitat for Humanity, a pre-school for mentally challenged children, food banks and pantries, a homeless shelter, camp friendship, and even a nursing home. The people we met, the relationships we made, and even the challenges and suffering we experienced were overwhelming; it opened our minds and made us want to make differences in the world.

Thanks to the wonderful people here at Resurrection Lutheran Church that helped support this program, I have explored so many different types of ministry and am looking at my future in a whole other way. – Stephanie Deck

Worship Jubilee 2007

I went to Chicago not knowing what to expect from this national church function. What I found was there are more Lutherans in the world than just those at Resurrection. I also found that we don’t all do the same style of worship and for that I am eternally grateful. I am so excited about the possibilities for worship in the ELCA as a whole and Resurrection in particular. The subject matter was so varied. It went from inviting and welcoming guests to principles for worship space. (It’s okay, I didn’t have a clue about it either.)

I was excited to have a couple of people ask me on Sunday about my time there. They probably got a lot more than they wanted to know. It is kind of like, “Hello, and how are you doing?” Sometimes we don’t want to know but . . . . we need to know. We need to stretch ourselves. As the lead for one of our workshops read, “Evangelical worship is an attitude, not a style of worship.”

In the coming weeks you will hear more about our time in Chicago with all those Lutherans. If you have interest to a greater degree, please stop Pastor Dave, Julie Peralta, Sherry Andersen, Connie Wallin or myself to find out further information. Watch out ! You might get more than you want to know or maybe you do want to know.   – Duane Wallin,

Grace Notes Handbell Choir Director

S.A.M.’s Club . . . .

The S.A.M.’s Club (Senior Adult Ministry) will meet at RLC on Monday, September 17th at 11:00am for a noon luncheon at the Mayberry Café at 87 W. Main in Danville, IN. Take 465 West to Danville, and the café is on Main Street. Look for Sheriff Andy Griffith’s patrol car out front! There is parking in the rear of the café. After the luncheon we can tour the cities antique shops. Please join us for an enjoyable afternoon. All adults are welcome!

Dinners for Eight . . . .

D-4-8 is an ongoing adult fellowship group that meets for good food and conversation. The host couple provides the entree, while the others bring the side dishes to complete the meal. We are open to singles as well – there is no reason we can't do a D-4-7 or a D-4-9! If you are interested in joining or have questions about the group please contact Jackie or Donn Mitchell at (317) 885-6553.

Baby Blankets . . . .

At the recent Global Mission Event in Columbus, Ohio, a representative of Global Health Missions reported on the overwhelming response to their request for knit or crochet bandages, expressing thanks to all those involved. Those who knit and/or crochet are now asked to apply those talents to baby blankets, 30-32" in size, made from any yarn, any colors. Directions will be posted on the WELCA area of the bulletin board outside the church office. Please join in this new project, bringing warmth and comfort to babies world wide.

Many Thanks . . . .

❀ Thank you for the donations to Fletcher Place Community Center. RLC donated $850 of groceries. Special thanks to Tom Blake who delivered the groceries for us.

❀ Thank you to the FaithBuilders’ Team for hanging-out with the youth during our overnight retreat to kick-off our Fall learning events! Everyone had a great time with little-to- no sleep.

❀ Thank you to those who volunteered over the Summer at RLC’s Playtime Port! This is an important ministry. We continually need many hands to play, read, cuddle, and be present with our little ones in the nursery to assist the staff.

Chrismon Making . . . .

Chrismons (or “monograms of Christ”) are Christian symbols which summarize our life in Christ that we hang on our Christmas tree at RLC. All are invited to make new and repair the old styrofoam and yarn Chrismons on Thursday, Sept. 6 at noon-5:00pm and on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 10:30am-4:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Materials provided.

Micah 6:8 calls us to "do justice, love mercy and walk humbly." Does your morning tea and coffee empower you to answer that call?

Conventionally traded coffee involves a lengthy and expensive cast of middle-men between farmers and consumers. Through Fair Trade, small farmers form cooperatives and sell directly to international buyers. Farmers receive a price that guarantees the income they need to feed their families, educate their children, seek medical care and improve their communities.

You create the demand for fair trade every time you buy. Support the LWR Coffee Project, and tell others to do the same. Order forms are available from the coffee host table. Prices are comparable to grocery store prices for similar products, and the products are delicious.

"We used to live in houses made of corn husks. [Because of fair trade] we have better work, better schools, homes of adobe, and a greater brotherhood."– Don Miguel Sifontes, coffee cooperative president, El Salvador

FB & YG Teams . . . .
