Holy Week Worship is one, unbroken experience of devotion – from Palm Sunday to the “Three days” of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Saturday’s Easter Vigil to the Sunday Festival of the Resurrection.

We follow the Lord’s footsteps through this tumultuous week to the joy of Easter.

Palm Sunday Worship 5:30pm on Mar. 31, and 8:00 & 10:45am on Apr. 1; Education Hour 9:30am – We begin Holy Week with the drama of the Passion – the story of Jesus’ last days, as we plunge into those events by which our salvation has been won. We begin with palm branches and joyous shouts of “Hosanna!” but soon find ourselves shouting “Crucify Him!” There is no benediction as we leave in silence, to return Thursday.

The Triduum – The Holy “Three Days”

Maundy Thursday Holy Communion Service 7:00pm on Apr. 5 — This is the night we remember the Lord’s last meal with His disciples, as we now too, gather with Him at His table. The service includes a brief homily; Holy Communion, including the First Communion of several young people; Faith Stepping Stone Blessing; and concluding with the stripping of the altar, preparing for the starkness of Good Friday. As we leave in silence, all are invited to the candlelight Agape Feast in the Fellowship Hall.

Good Friday Tennebrae 7:00pm on Apr. 6 — There is no joy, no Easter, no life – without the cross. This quiet and solemn service portrays the growing darkness of the world – and the light of Christ whose love took Him into the darkness of death itself – for us. A reading of the Passion, quiet music, and meditation. The liturgy of “Tennebrae,” meaning “Darkness,” is marked by the gradual extinguishing of all lights and candles until just one candle symbolizing Christ remains. Again, we leave in silence.

Holy Saturday Easter Vigil 7:00pm on Apr. 7 — In the early church, new Christians, having been instructed in the faith, were brought forward for baptism at midnight. In this ancient liturgy, we echo that baptismal journey. In this service we light the paschal candle for the first time of Easter, hear the stories of salvation history, witness a baptism, renew our own baptismal passage from death to life, and celebrate the first communion of Easter. Come and experience the spiritual culmination of the three days in this unique worship service.

First Communion

April 5th, Maundy Thursday, will be a special day at Resurrection! Many young people are spending the season of Lent learning with their parents in a Sunday class celebrating the gift of the Sacrament of the Altar. After an individual meeting with the Pastor and their parents, they will stand ready to be welcomed to the Lord’s Table at the Maundy Thursday, Holy Communion Service at 7:00pm. Children taking the First Communion Class include:

    Clara Andersen         Conner Andersen

Marissa AndersonAlex Dile

Mia Papageorge         Taylor RasmussenAnn Schnabel            Krista ToneyJacqueline Wiernicki

Faith Stepping Stone

“Livin Forgiven”

Youth in the 4th grade and their parents have been participating in the Faith Stepping Stone #5 “Livin Forgiven.” Join us for the Blessing service on Thursday, April 5 at 7:00pm during the Maundy Thursday worship service.

Food For the Poor Visit

On the weekend of April 14-15, Pr. Ron Starenko, an ELCA retired pastor, will be our guest preacher, representing the ecumenical ministry of Food For The Poor. FFP links the church of the First World with the church of the Third World in a manner that helps the materially poor and the poor in spirit in the Caribbean and Latin America. The third-largest international charity in the U.S., FFP provides food, water, education, housing, healthcare, and economic development, with more than 96% of all donations received going directly to programs that help the poor. Our RLC Discipleship Hour children raised money for 100 chicks!

Pr. Starenko and his wife Katy make their home in Naples, FL. During his active ministry he served several congregations, worked as a counseling pastor, and has been on active and inactive duty as a Navy Chaplain. He has served on the speakers bureau of FFP since September 2001. Welcome him to RLC on April 14-15!

Maundy Thursday

Agape Feast

Following the April 5th Maundy Thursday worship, all are invited to share in an Agape Feast in honor of Jesus in the RLC Fellowship Hall. (Agape is Greek for “love.”) Remembering Jesus feasting on this night with His friends, we too gather as a family with elegant hors d’oeuvres and fellowship, in a foretaste of the community of heaven.

The Resurrection

of Our Lord

Worship at 8:00 & 10:45am

April 8th at 8:00 and 10:45am, at our Festival worship service, we shout with “alleluias” as we celebrate Christ’s rising from the dead and our resurrection life with Him – now and always. These will be full festival services of Word and Sacrament, with special music and song, preaching and Easter Eucharist. Families are encouraged to come in one vehicle if possible, to alleviate parking.

Easter Morning Breakfast

Come enjoy the fellowship of our Resurrection Family at our Easter morning Breakfast. It should be a wonderful way to start the celebration of our Risen Lord. The breakfast will be continuously running from 9 to 10:30am in the Fellowship Hall.

An Update from FFMT

Our Future Facilities Ministry Team continues it's work with regard to our Future Facilities here at Resurrection Lutheran Church.

In addition to meeting with the Synod Representative and with Stan Peterson to gather more information we have had conversations with Kevin Callahan who helped us prepare the master plan we currently have. Kevin is involved in several building projects across the country and is a good resource related to construction costs.

Additionally we have divided the FFMT up into two groups “STAY” and “GO.” Each of these two groups is focused on the challenges and opportunities if we were to decide to “STAY” or we were to decide to “GO.”

Again the most important information for the Congregation today remains that no decision has been made but progress has been made. With God's help we are becoming better informed about the future opportunities for RLC and are excited about sharing those opportunities once we have all of the information we can gather.

Please keep this Ministry Team in your prayers and please feel free to contact any one of them with any thoughts and ideas you may have.

Easter Blessings to all of you,

Michael McCarty, Daryl Huber, Brian Hewitt, Joyce Peterson, Tom Myers, and Leslie Daugherty

RLC Receives

"Life Together" Grant . . . .

We have received word that RLC has been accepted into the latest grant initiative of the Indianapolis Center for Congregations titled, "Life Together: Thinking and Acting Strategically." The first phase of the grant is participation in a series of three day-long classes about activities for thinking strategically. These classes will be attended by our Project Director, Eric Schilling, and Pastor Mitch. Watch the Bell Ringer as we learn more about this grant initiative.

Our annual spring clean-up day is scheduled for Saturday, April 14rd. We will try to get underway by 9:00am. Donuts, juice, and coffee will be provided. Weather permitting, we will be working outside as well as inside.

Not only do we hope to spruce up the church, but also would like to weed and rake the yard so that we may plant our spring flowers. There will be plenty of cleaning supplies for the inside, but volunteers will need to bring garden tools for the outside.

The more helping hands we have, the faster the work will go. There will be plenty to do. Please come – It will be time well spent!

Faith Practices - Five Minutes - Twenty-One Days

Mary Kay Ash (founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics) taught her directors if they did something for 21 days it would become a habit. Over the years I have come to agree with her . . . be it eating healthier, exercising, or practicing my faith . . . I have found that “sticking” with it for no less than 21 days helps in achieving my goal.

Over the past two years, Resurrection has been engaging and equipping families in faith practices from birth to graduation. Let’s be honest . . . how many of us think faith practices and nightly huddles sound like a daunting task? All we’re suggesting is for five minutes. Five minutes for a minimum of 21 days! Turn off the television, put down the newspaper. Invest FIVE with your child every night (spouse, partner, friend); jot down your daily highs, lows, and prayers.

Parents play a major role in the health of their child, with some assistance from the church. Resurrection will continue to place some of the essential tools to practice faith in the home and small groups; while providing comprehensive care for the entire congregation.

Rev. Rich Melheim, Founder of Faith Inkubators says:

In reality, there is very little the church can do to teach faith in 52 minutes each week if that faith is not being reinforced in the home the other 10,028 minutes. Parents have been, are and always will be the main faith teachers for their children whether we acknowledge them and choose to support them in their calling or not.”

Here’s to your Faith Practices – Five Minutes – Twenty-One Days:

➀ Share Highs & Lows (build relationships)

➁ Read Scripture (go ahead, crack open the Bible at home)

➂ Talk about what you read (apply Scripture to your Highs & Lows)

➃ Pray (pray for each another)

➄ Bless (physically trace the sign of the cross on one another and share a blessing)

This “family-practice” role modeled every week in every church, and every night in every home, is a healthy step towards growing the “Body.”

                                                                      Blessings,

      Have you Purchased

       Your “Shares” in our

               Oklahoma

        Workcamp Crew?

An “Initial Public Offering”(IPO) letter has been sent to the congregation inviting everyone to invest in “shares” of our Crew that is headed to Seminole, Oklahoma to take part in a Workcamp sponsored by Group. There will be eighteen youth, four adults, Pastor Dave, and Ms. Julie going as participants in the Workcamp. RLC member Steve Rentz will be joining the Workcamp Staff for the week as a Troubleshooter. Each “share” is priced at just $5 so that everyone can afford to become a shareholder.

Here is a sampling of the privileges and benefits that would be yours as a shareholder in our Oklahoma Workcamp Crew:

You will receive a numbered Shareholder Certificate, suitable for framing.

As a registered shareholder, you will receive an invitation to a shareholders-only dinner upon our return from Oklahoma. That dinner will be the first opportunity for people to see pictures and hear our stories from this mission trip.

Shareholders will receive a post card from Oklahoma from our Crew.

We plan to send daily E-mail updates (if possible) to those who provide us with an E-mall address.

You will have the personal satisfaction of knowing that you are helping a group of youth take part in a once-in-a-lifetime, faith-growing, missional experience.

With all of these benefits, we hope that everyone will want to become a shareholder in the RLC Oklahoma Workcamp Crew. Shares cost only $5 and you may purchase as many shares as you like. Copies of the IPO letter and Application for Shares can be found on the bulletin board beside Julie Peralta’s office. Completed Applications for Shares along with cash or checks can be given to Julie Peralta, Pr Dave, or placed in the offering.

Resurrection Life Courses

In order to foster our growth in maturity as disciples of Jesus Christ, Resurrection Lutheran Church offers a series of four six-week courses that parallel the four movements of our Mission Statement:

As a Resurrection People, we are called to...

                                 Welcome all people into the body of Christ;

                                 Nurture them in faithful discipleship;

                                 Equip each one for the work of ministry;

                                 Serve others in the name of Christ;

...that all may know God’s love.

Resurrection Life 1: WELCOME to Christ

Focusing on the initial “compass point” of “welcoming” in our Mission Statement, RLC 1 is the introductory course and is required for membership. An introduction to the basics of Lutheran Christianity.

Resurrection Life 2: NURTURE the Marks of Discipleship

RLC 2 is based on learning to live the six “PoWeR SuRGe” marks of discipleship (daily prayer - worship - reading Scripture - serving - relationships - giving)

Resurrection Life 3: EQUIPPING by Discovering Spiritual Gifts

This practical course is designed to discover how one is uniquely “SHAPEd” for ministry through Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and our Experiences.

Resurrection Life 4: SERVING in the Name of Christ

This course focuses on matching one’s unique gifts for service at Resurrection and beyond, as well as training in winsomely and comfortably sharing one’s faith with others.

During the Easter season, the pastors will lead us through the first offering of Resurrection Life Course 4 – Serving in the Name of Christ. Focused on finding ways to “live out” our faith in practical, demonstrable ways in everyday, ordinary life, we will examine paths of service at RLC as well as out in the community. Through practical caring and faith-sharing skills, RLC 4 shows how all Christians can joyfully, comfortably, and naturally live and share the love of Christ with others.
